Hey All -

I have been tossing this idea around for a while but I dont know if its valid or not - I have been thinking about starting a small business for artists and would be toy designers, where you could come to me with your idea, and my business would sort of "turn key" a prototype for you, whether you came to us with just an idea, a rough sketch, concept art, etc -

My background (which lead me to this) is 10 years as a VFX artist in the film industry, a year of 3D toy prototyping for companies on a freelance basis, and current work in the field of 3D printing and rapid prototyping. All those plus a love of toys just sort of blended together :)

I would love to eventually expand into getting a production pipeline down also, as I have been researching various ways of doing that.

What are your thoughts? Would anyone actually use it, or would the price for the service (Getting anything built and printed in 3D isnt cheap) just make it a moot idea??

Thanks in advise for any thoughts or constructive criticisms :)

Tyler

While I am not the most knowledgeable person about the industry I am fairly certain companies like this already exist. I know the sucklord had a company sculpt his Sucklord 600 (http://trampt.com/designer-toys/17422/s ... suckadelic). Basically your clients would be people who have the money, but don't have the time.

"Time or skills"

this actually interests me. I made something I think is ok, but I want cleaner and all white and may want mass produced. what would you charge for this?

You hit it on the head - It would be for people with no time to research and get the item made, or for people with an idea, but maybe not the artistic skill to do the rendering, or maybe even people who are awesome 2D artists and have great concept art, but dont have 3D sculpting abilities - etc - -

Oh - Shoot me an email with what you have and what you would ideally like the end result to be - tyler_ham (at) ymail.com

We can go from there!

As someone who is currently designing and attempting to sculpt/prototype an original DIY, this would be great if affordable...

This would really help me out - What do you consider affordable?

I mean, how much would you realistically pay to have your drawings or ideas turned into a resin "master" copy, that you could cast, etc ....

Keep in mind this includes back and forth over design, 3D modeling, and 3D print costs -

ANy thoughts on what people consider realistic to pay for this would be great! Thank you!
