Hey guys. We have noticed an immense amount of spam being thrown at us lately, so I have decided to set our registration of new members to where I have to approve them before they can become a member. Hopefully this will help in the stop of spammers signing up and posting away.

I hope that this does not effect too many real new members to badly, just need to get a handle on the spam.

I'm on other forums where people can sign up, but their first few posts/replies are moderated. That lets the admins delete them if it's obviously spam, or approve the new member and give them full access if what they've written is obviously legit.

I think I have that ability. I'm not too familiar with all the security options and how they work, but I do have a set up where I can test permissions. Maybe that is what you are talking about, I might try that and see how that works too.

Just to give you and idea of how bad the problem is... I had 26 emails in my inbox this morning waiting for approval... That's just nuts!

Good news was... There was no spam on the boards this morning!!!

Thanks Fuller. It's ridiculous at the moment. On the Kidrobot forum almost 7 pages of spam.

I know. I get a few during the day. But it really starts up in the AM hours.

Had a couple on this morning. The names did not look familiar to what I approved so they must have signed on before I did the new security. If anyone sees anything let me know so I can keep track if this is working or not.
