Today we are pleased to bring you an interview from another great artist from the upcoming Assassin Series, here is the 14th installment of the CTU's interview series...

Presenting the CTU's Dirty Dozen featuring: F+

Image

1. What name do you go by and why?

I've gone by f+ for almost ten years now. It came from being a self taught artist, and looking at the upside of failures that com with paving your own artistic path.

2. Why did you get into custom toy making?

I bought my first dunnies like 5 years ago, and I didn't like one of the designs in the box. I immediately painted it to look like a little monster and gifted it to my brother. It wasn't until a couple years later that I found out about munnies and the KR community. I normally customize stuff anyways, so it didn't seem that unique to me at the time. lol

3. What influences / motivates your work the most?

I'm usually motivated by things that have stories to tell, things with depth and a sort of stylistic poetry inherent in their designs. I try to to take in every form of unique creative energy I can as often as I can.

4. What is your favorite platform to work with?

I've done a crap ton of munnies and dunnies for sure, but I really enjoy the other platforms I've worked on too, the Qees and teddy troops and pushers and what not. I'd say I've probably enjoyed the Coarsetoys stuff the most, they're a bit more rare to work on and have some great lines to play with.

5. What tools of the trade do you use?

I'm actually just a simple tool guy for the most part. I sculpt in two part resin and try to make as many little features as I can by hand and with my trusty exacto!

6. Do you have any formal arts training?

Formal? no. I went to the school of hard knocks art academy though. :)

7.What other artistic mediums do you dabble in?

I paint in acrylics and watercolor as well. I'm thinking of taking some drum lessons too, if I can find the time!

8. Who are your favorite artists?

Soo many great artists out there right now! If I had to name only a few, Greg Simkins, Chris Berens, Kris Kuski, and all the great artists in the Custom forums. There is so much talent in the forums, sometimes I feel like they are the unsung heroes of the vinyl scene.

9.Who or what pieces do you collect?

I don't collect much, since most of it ends up getting customized sooner or later, but I'm a big Thomas Han and Brandt peters fan. I have a few KR pieces here and there as well.

10. What piece are you most proud of?

Probably my Black Majik Codexian. it was my first codexian piece, and it just happened so organically. It turned out exactly how I wanted it and just really captures the vibe I was going for with that design.

11.Do you have any shows or exhibitions in the works?

I have an exhibition at the end of the month at Screaming Sky Gallery here in Portland. I'm also in a few group shows over the next few months, and I'm currently preparing my largest body of work to date to tell a pretty epic story of the world I've made.

12. Do you take commissions?

I absolutely do. Although I book up fairly quickly these days. I think my schedule is about two months out for new commissions, so if you want to line something up, feel free to email me at Josh (at) fplusnever.com

I was amazed that your piece for the Munny Munth contest didn't place.

Both the sculpting and the paint job were top drawer. The lighting effect from the candles blew my socks off!

I love your designs! They have such a cool feel to them. The sculpting and paint apps are perfect!

Raises his game with each new piece... this guy's got to have an original production piece (ie. not a platform piece) pretty soon.
